If you've been playing MLB The Show 26 for a while, you know how great the Dynamic Difficulty system can be. It scales with you—as you start crushing home runs or painting the corners, the game smoothly bumps up the challenge. But sometimes, it pushes you just a bit too far. Maybe you hit a massive slump, took a few weeks off, or just want to start fresh back at Beginner to work on a new stance or pitching interface.
The problem? Simply toggling the
Dynamic Difficulty setting off and back on again doesn't actually clear your skill level data. The game remembers your progress.
If you want to completely reset your skill tracking and start back at square one, you have to use a quick profile workaround. Here is exactly how to do it, along with a few alternative methods if you're stuck.
How to Reset Your Dynamic Difficulty Progress
To completely clear your accumulated tracking history, you need to trick the game by cycling your settings profile. Follow these steps right from the main menu:
Open Settings: Head over to the top-right corner of the main menu and click on the Settings gear.
Access Profiles: Select Settings, and then navigate to Gameplay or look for your active Settings Profiles.
Create a New Profile: Choose the option to create a brand-new profile.
Set as Default: Give your new profile a name, save it, and make sure you set it as your Default Profile.
Delete the Old Profile: Now, select your old settings profile and hit delete. This is the crucial step—deleting that old profile is what actually wipes out your past tracking history.
Re-Enable Settings: Pop back into your new profile’s gameplay options, turn Dynamic Difficulty back on, and adjust your Dynamic Difficulty Sensitivity to whatever you prefer.
You're all set! The game will treat you like a rookie again.
Alternative Methods
If you don't want to go through the hassle of deleting profiles, or if your settings feel completely locked up, you have two other options:
The In-Game Performance Drop: Because the difficulty scales live based on how you play, you can lower it naturally—just a lot faster. Fire up a few Exhibition games and intentionally tank. Strike out on purpose, swing at everything in the dirt, or give up a bunch of hits when pitching. The system will rapidly drop your level back down to something manageable.
The Nuclear Option (Console Save Deletion): If your profile seems permanently stuck or glitched, you can wipe the local storage. Head into your console’s system storage settings, find MLB The Show 26, and delete your Saved Data / User Settings profile. Don't panic: this will not touch your Diamond Dynasty progress, your stubs, or your earned trophies/achievements. However, it will reset your custom camera angles, sliders, and audio setups, so you'll have to tweak those again.
Troubleshooting Trophy and Achievement Issues
A lot of players try to reset their difficulty specifically to hunt down certain milestone trophies or achievements. If that’s you, make sure your Sliders are turned completely off.
If you've adjusted pitch speeds, hitting power, or any other gameplay sliders, the game will completely disable achievement progression for difficulty updates. Keep everything on the default slider settings if you want those rewards to pop!
